BIBLE ONLINE IN ELECTRONIC FORMAT
The Bible search tool eBIBLE (https://www.ebibele.lv) is a project implemented by the foundation Latvian Bible Foundation, which, in accordance with our established goals, provides free online access to Christian Bible texts in Latvian language for anyone interested to open, read, search Bible books, chapters and verses in several editions, versions and translations of the Bibles that are opened in parallel.
The project has been implemented using available free and open-source software solutions and resources available to the Latvian Bible Foundation. The solution is developed and implemented as a Web-Based application (tool) called "Bible Search", which is freely available to all interested parties who have access to the Internet. The goal set by the Latvian Bible Foundation is to create and develop a software tool that has a wide functionality and is as convenient as possible for all users, efficient, understandable, intuitive and easy to use from any modern device that is designed to access and browse Internet, using most popular web browsers.
Within the scope of the project the following basic functionalities and usage options of the initial Bible Search tool are provided, which are still planned to be developed, improved and supplemented in the future.
-
- To open, read, compare Bible passages in parallel in several user-selected, available electronic, digitized editions, versions, translations of the Bible.
- To execute various types of searches by user-selected key words, defined conditions and selected parts of the Bible.
- To adapt the tool interface to the user's individual needs using various tool settings.
- To choose the interface language of the tool.
- To use bookmarks to save Bible openings and passages desired by the user.
- To create references to passages that can be shared with others, using direct links to Bible openings in the tool.
- Familiarize yourself with the user manual of the tool.
Within the framework of the project website https://www.ebibele.lv is developed and maintained where this solution is available for online use. This website is also expected to be supplemented by placing Bible related informational materials in the future.
Within the framework of the project, in the future it is expected to agree on the usage of the Bible texts with several copyright holders of the Bible editions and translations published in the Latvian language.
As part of the project, in the future it is planned to digitize several editions of the Latvian Bible, storing the textual data in a structured way. Access to this data would be provided through the graphical user interface (GUI) of the software Bible Search tool solution which is developed within the framework of this project. The eBIBLE platform developed as part of the project was opened for public use from 02.04.2024.
